Improving Public Health with Open-Source Integration: A DrupalCamp Colorado Presentation
At DrupalCamp Colorado 2023, Skvare showcased how the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) leverages CiviCRM and Drupal to support its mission of improving public health. NNLM advances the progress of medicine by providing health professionals and the public with equal access to biomedical information, helping people make informed decisions about their health.
This project replaced RedHenCRM with CiviCRM and consolidated multiple critical functions:
- Professional affiliations
- Geographic and demographic tracking
- Member management and directories
- Event management
- Grant management
The project goals focused on:
- Minimizing customizations and leveraging contributed modules
- Supporting scalability and long-term performance
- Maintaining data ownership and development control
- Ensuring ongoing improvements and maintenance
CiviCRM now powers NNLM’s contact and member management, event registrations, bulk mailings, and grant tracking. By integrating open-source tools, NNLM has built a platform that is flexible, scalable, and aligned with its long-term mission.
