No Vendor Lock-In: Our Clean Break-Up Clause and Why We’re Proud of It

At Skvare, we work hard to earn our clients’ trust. One of the ways we do this is by having a "clean break-up clause" in all of our agreements. We want to make it easy for organizations to choose us for their technical support, and if we're no longer the best fit, we're committed to a smooth transition to a new provider.

Remember the movie Miracle on 34th Street when Santa sent customers to Gimbels? That’s how we operate. Just like you might side-eye a restaurant serving both meatloaf and sushi, we’re candid about our capabilities. If your needs go beyond our expertise, we’ll say so and introduce you to someone else in our network.

What “no lock-in” means in practice

  • You own your data. For our clients leveraging open source software, we provide full database exports and dumps on request.
  • Portable hosting & code. Your code lives in a version control system that you can access.
  • Transparent processes. We maintain clear records of decisions, configurations, and integrations to ensure system clarity.

Why we work this way

Our job is to help you extend and get the most out of your system. In all of our projects, we center the people most impacted by the system and make participation easy. We co-create project roles and implementation plans so accountability is visible. Our recommendations are vendor-agnostic and aligned with our clients’ internal capacity. We design for ownership across teams and anticipate turnover to avoid single-person dependencies. We document options so choices are transparent and our clients stay in the driver's seat of their systems. If you believe working with a transparent support partner is important, let's talk about how we can support your organization.
